Proudly introducing some VIPs to South Lodge

We are very pleased to announce that on Sunday 16 May 2010 Gertie, one of our beautiful Mastiffs, delivered two healthy bitch puppies. (Our other Mastiff Jake, is of course the father. ) It was quite an exciting experience, as both she and we are first timers! However, we’re delighted to find that she’s a naturally good mum, making the whole experience both easier and more fun.

The pups have temporary names of Trouble and Limpet. Trouble took a little time to get the idea of natural feeding, whilst her sister took to the process immediately and with great enthusiasm. Weight was 580 and 720 grams respectively, already increased by over 100% in the first week. Despite these impressive numbers it should be noted that as mum weighs around 95 kilos right now, the disparity is huge! As a result these grand animals need quite a lot of care especially in the first couple of weeks. This is giving me plenty of opportunity for recording the progress of our family. As a result we are putting together a growing album available to you on the Internet at http://southlodgebnb.posterous.com. Once there you can leave a comment on individual photos or decide to subscribe, so an email will be sent to you every time a new photo or video is added.
